House rewiring in Sittingbourne

House rewiring in Sittingbourne

Wiring does not last forever. Older homes can still have cables with cracked or brittle insulation, round pin sockets, rewireable fuses or very few sockets, and none of that suits the way we use electricity now.

A rewire replaces the old cables, accessories and consumer unit with a new installation. MayBird Electrics carries out whole house and part house rewires in Sittingbourne and the surrounding area.

  • Replaces old and worn wiring
  • Whole house or part of a house
  • New sockets and lights where you want them
  • Tested on completion

Signs your home may need rewiring

Common signs include scorch marks around sockets, a fizzing or burning smell, fuses that blow often, lights that dim when appliances switch on, old round pin sockets and cloth-covered cables. Very few sockets, and a house full of extension leads, is another hint that the installation is no longer enough.

None of these automatically means a full rewire. An inspection and test of the installation shows what condition the wiring is really in, and we can talk through the options with you.

What a rewire involves

A rewire is planned around the way you use the house. We work out the number and position of sockets and lights with you first, so the finished home suits how you live, then remove the old wiring, fit the new cables and accessories and install a new consumer unit.

A rewire can be done room by room or while a property is being renovated. Every circuit is tested on completion, and we explain what has been done and what paperwork applies.

What affects the cost of a rewire

The main factors are the size of the house, the number of sockets and lights you want, how easy it is to get at the cables under floors and in the loft, and whether the consumer unit is being replaced at the same time. Whether the house is lived in during the work, and how much making good and decorating is needed afterwards, also make a difference.

Talk to us about what you have in mind and we explain what the job involves so you can compare like with like.
